Singer Eva Celia released her first all-English album on Wednesday.
Entitled And So It Begins, the album contains eight songs with lyrics written by the singer. Eva, the daughter of jazz musician Indra Lesmana and actress Sophia Latjuba, said she decided to write in English due to a lack of proficiency in Indonesian literature.
“I feel that I need to learn about Indonesian literature, but at the same time I didn’t want to push this album back,” Eva said during a launch in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The singer, who often listened to her parents' records when she was little, also said she felt inferior when writing lyrics. “The fear is never gone, but my desire to create work is bigger than the fear."
Eva said she used a guitar to create the melodies for her lyrics, adding that she always loved to play piano or guitar to find the right chord progression.
Local and foreign musicians, including Justin Tanton and Mark Letteri, collaborated with Eva on the album. She said it was something she had never imagined before as they were singers who she had always enjoyed watching at Jakarta jazz festivals.
"The collaboration process was as simple as corresponding through e-mail," she said. (mas/kes)
