witzerland's astronomical Neuchâtel Observatory has also served historically as a place for Swiss watchmaking company Longines. Dating back to 1954, the first quartz clock with atomic precision that was developed by the brand was certified at the observatory.
The first quartz clock was placed in the Chronocinégines, a sports-timing instrument, which provided judges with a film strip composed of a series of prints at 1/100th of a second, allowing them to follow the movement of the athletes at the moment they cross the finish line.
In 1984, Longines recorded a new milestone in precision by launching the Conquest Very High Precision (VHP). The wristwatch is said to be five to 10 times more accurate than a classic quartz watch.

This year, the brand is attempting to rehash its 1984 success by establishing the new Conquest VHP at the same observatory, which it claims boasts great precision, high technicality and a sporty look.
Available in two versions, a three-hands/calendar and chronograph, the Conquest VHP is equipped with a gear position detection (GPD) system with which it resets the watch’s hands following an impact or exposure to a magnetic field. The company claims it also boasts long battery life of up to five years and a perpetual calendar.
Encased in stainless steel with multi-layered and anti-reflective coating that is water-resistant down to 50 meters, both versions' stainless steel straps are also equipped with a triple safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism. (kes)
