he Bogor city administration in West Java has named a street after the late scholar Prof. Dr. Andi Hakim Nasoetion, in honor of the services of the former rector of Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) to education.
Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto touted Andi at the naming ceremony on Saturday as an exemplary leader in teaching, research and education in his lifetime.
"The name Andi Hakim Nasoetion is quite familiar; a public figure and researcher who had many ideas that were implemented in the world of higher education," Bima said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Among those in attendance at the ceremony were current IPB rector Herry Suhardiyanto, representatives from the university, as well as deputy mayor Usmar Hariman and regional secretary Ade Sarip Hidayat.

Andi is known for having implemented the four-year undergraduate degree program at IPB in 1972, which in 1980 was subsequently applied nationally. The master’s degree implemented at the university since 1975 was also applied nationwide in 1981, as well as the systemized doctoral degree that was also adopted by IPB in 1975.
Andi was also known for having replaced arithmetic with mathematics in primary school in 1970, as well as creating the latter subject at junior and senior high school levels in the same year.
The naming of Jl. Prof. Dr. Andi Hakim Nasoetion, formerly Jl. Rumah Sakit, also marked Bogor's 535th anniversary. (liz/kes)
