An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power
Release date: July 28
Following the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Agreement under Donald Trump, the documentary is highly anticipated. As a sequel to former US vice president Al Gore's thought provoking An Inconvenient Truth, the documentary shows the progress made in terms of climate change, promises of Paris Agreement, and, of course, the huge letdown that is the US withdrawal -- which Al Gore has called "reckless and indefensible".

Annabelle: Creation
Release date: Aug. 11
Just as the name suggests, Annabelle: Creation tells the origin story of demonically possessed doll Annabelle. The story is set in a house that hosts a nun and several orphaned girls. One of the girls sees the ghost of the homeowner's daughter, who died several years ago and has since moved into a doll -- one we know as Annabelle.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
Release date: Sept. 22
In the sequel, viewers are introduced to the network of secret organizations. After the major destruction of the Kingsman's headquarters by villain Poppy (Juliane Moore), Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and other agents must take refuge in their US counterpart the Statesman. The trailer shows Eggsy's mentor, Harry Hart (Colin Firth), make an appearance after being presumed dead in the first Kingsman movie.

Blade Runner 2049
Release date: Oct. 6
Set 30 years after the first movie, police officer K (Ryan Gosling) discovers a strange world and embarks on a mission to find long-missing senior officer Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford). The trailer teases threat of war of civilizations, with Jared Leto as the harbinger and Robin Wright playing on the other side.
Thor: Ragnarok
Release date: Nov. 3
After missing from the latest Avengers movie and living a daily, ordinary life in Australia with Darryl, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is back. Dangling on chains, without his hammer Mjolnir, and on captivity, yes, but back nonetheless. The trailer shows Thor who must defeat his “friend from work” Hulk in order to save Asgard in a gladiator-style battle.

Justice League
Release date: Nov. 17
It is not a sequel per se, but continues from events that occurred in the previous Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) is on a mission to gather the future members of the Justice League comprising Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Flash (Ezra Miller) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). DC Entertainment has suffered a crisis in its adaptation movies, most notably being Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. However, the success of Wonder Woman brings a new hope for DC fans.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Release date: Dec. 25
If the last Star Wars movie is more like an introduction to the current condition of the galaxy, the upcoming one promises more action. Rey (Daisy Ridley) is now under the tutelage of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who plans to bring an end to the Jedi order. This is Carrie Fisher's last movie, Fisher completed her work before her death. (kes)
