You can also take a nostalgic, slow-motion trip back to the 1990s with the Dwayne Johnson-starring Baywatch remake if you’re into that.

Later on in the month, we’ve got the return of a classic Universal Pictures monster with Tom Cruise’s The Mummy, as well as two long-running franchises – Despicable Me 3 and Transformers: The Last Knight.

So get ready for some Minions, monster, and machine mayhem this blockbuster month.

Wonder Woman

Diana Prince is the princess of the Amazons who was raised on a sheltered island filled with a race of immortal super-women, and these women are trained to become unconquerable fighters. When American pilot Steve Trevor accidentally crashes on the island and tells Diana about a war that is happening in the outside world, Diana leaves her home to try to stop the war and becomes a superheroine known as Wonder Woman.

Why you should watch it:

It’s the solo film debut of arguably THE greatest female superhero ever, and despite the trailers giving away what feels like half the movie already, we’re still pretty excited about watching Gal Gadot in action as the Amazonian Princess. Let’s hope this will be the film to finally get the DC Expanded Universe going.

Baywatch

Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jon Bass, Priyanka Chopra, Hannibal Buress

Mitch Buchannon is a lifeguard, one of the best in the business. But when Baywatch recruits a young, hotheaded new guy, Mitch must learn to work with him in order to protect their beach from a group of drug smugglers.

Why you should watch it:

Yes, it’s THAT Baywatch, the one with all the red swimsuits, slow-motion scenes. This remake stars Dwayne Johnson, who always delivers a good time, and by all accounts, it’s an entertaining, if a little crude, mindless flick with plenty of knowing nods to the original series.

God Of War

Cast: Vincent Zhao, Sammo Hung, Wan Qian, Timmy Hung, Yasuaki Kurata

The Chinese coastline is plagued by Japanese pirates. Qi Jiguang, a famous Chinese military general, builds an army out of 3,000 local villagers and trains them on advanced weapons and tactics in order to defend the coast from these pirates.

Why you should watch it:

The presence of two martial arts legends – Vincent Zhao and Sammo Hung – pretty much guarantees a good action flick, and based on the trailer, director Gordon Chan seems to have produced quite an action-packed flick with lots of epic battle scenes.

The Mummy

Cast: Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe

Buried alive 2,000 years ago for killing her father, an ancient princess is awakened when her tomb is rediscovered, and goes on a rampage to destroy the world. And really, why wouldn’t you if you were her?

Why you should watch it:

The Mummy is part of a new cinematic universe involving classic Universal monsters like Frankenstein, The Mummy, and The Invisible Man, which is set to star A-listers like Cruise, Russell Crowe, Javier Bardem, and Johnny Depp. While it seems as though every other movie is part of a cinematic universe these days, this is one we’re genuinely excited about.

Train Station

Cast: Patrick Gorman, Judith Hoersch, Yoann Sover

Director: Tony Pietra, Xavier Agudo, Ryan Bajornas

The film revolves around a character called “Person In Brown”, who finds himself facing numerous life-changing decisions after his plans get derailed by a mysterious train accident.

Why you should watch it:

The story may seem ordinary, but the execution of this film is not. It was written and directed by over a hundred people with numerous actors playing the same main character. Every time Person In Brown makes a new choice, the entire film’s cast, director, and even city are switched.

Despicable Me 3

The Minions are back! Minions! More Minions! Oh, and the trailer looks funny too. But yeah, MINIONS!

Once Upon A Time In Venice

Cast: Bruce Willis, Jason Momoa, John Goodman, Thomas Middleditch, Famke Janssen

Private detective Steve Ford loves his dog. But when his dog is stolen by a drug dealer, he has to help them get their drugs from a thief, at the same time run from a loan shark, a pair of vengeful Samoan brothers, among other shady characters.

Why you should watch it:

The star-studded cast (Willis! Momoa! Goodman! Janssen!) is intriguing enough, and the trailer gives us the impression of a goofier, more grounded version of John Wick. Though John Wick will probably wipe the floor with Steve Ford and everyone involved in this film if they ever stole HIS dog.

Transformers: The Last Knight

Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Isabela Moner, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Santiago Cabrera, Anthony Hopkins

Director: Michael Bay

Humans and transformers are at war on Earth, and the key to saving the future lies in the past. Cade Yeager and Bumblebee form an unlikely alliance with a British Lord and an Oxford professor to find the answers. Oh, and something’s wrong with Optimus Prime too…

Why you should watch it:

It’s Michael Bay’s Transformers, so you know what you’re going get. It may not be winning the Best Screenplay Oscar anytime soon, but hey, at least Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are back for more metal on metal mayhem.
