nited States actor Tom Hanks has won this year's Records of Achievement Award from the Washington-based National Archives Foundation for his work in film that has brought awareness of US history to a wider public, as reported by Reuters.
The 61-year-old actor will receive the award at an event on Oct. 21 at the National Archives Museum in Washington, the foundation said in a statement on Monday.
"He's served in World War II [in both the European and Pacific Theaters], negotiated for the US in the Cold War, fought in Vietnam, worked in Congress and led the space program," said David Ferriero, archivist of the US and board member of the National Archives Foundation, as quoted by Reuters.

Hanks, a two-time Oscar winner, has worked in film reflecting US-related historical events and figures, such as World War II drama Saving Private Ryan and Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies.
He also starred in space adventure docudrama Apollo 13 and played an FBI agent in Catch Me If You Can, a film based on the true story of fraudster Frank Abagnale.
"As a dive into archives of almost any kind is, to me, a swim in the finest of waters, I'm dazzled to be a part of this event," Hanks said in a statement.
Steven Spielberg, who directed Hanks in Saving Private Ryan, Bridge of Spies and upcoming Pentagon Papers movie The Papers, is among the past winners of the award.
Last year, Hanks was also one of 21 people awarded the 2016 Presidential Medal of Freedom -- the highest US civilian honor. (liz/kes)
