Kaum Jakarta restaurant in Central Jakarta has been named Restaurant of the Year at the inaugural Jakarta’s Best Eats Awards.

Announced on Thursday in the Four Seasons Jakarta hotel, Jakarta’s Best Eats Awards, presented by FoodieS magazine and Aqua Reflections, aims to acknowledge all the great work that chefs in Jakarta have been doing.

Kaum Jakarta impressed the independent judges, a team comprising well-known local gourmands, with its food, service, drinks and interior. These features were considered to be aligned, making Kaum not just a noteworthy experience, but also an example of how an Indonesian restaurant can be world class and ready to serve a global audience.

Jakarta’s Best Eats Awards selected the Top 40 Restaurants in Jakarta. It also announced the winners of the Chef of the Year and Bar of the Year categories.

Ragil Imam Wibowo, chef/patron of Nusa Indonesian Gastronomy, was named Chef of the Year for his efforts in crafting Indonesian cuisine to meet contemporary tastes and standards, using traditional yet rare ingredients and thriving in the city’s increasingly competitive fine-dining environment.

Meanwhile, Leon in South Jakarta was named Bar of the Year, as it presents artisanal cocktails that feature classic recipes with a modern twist.

FoodieS publisher Jed Doble said in a press release, “The Jakarta’s Best Eats Awards will encourage culinary creativity and excellence, drive the local scene to even greater heights and help ensure that every night is fully booked at restaurants." (kes)
