reativity can result from simplicity and the movie Dilan 1990 is an example of simplicity captured from the right angle by the camera. These were the thoughts President Joko Widodo shared at a press after watching the movie at a cinema in Senayan, on Sunday, Feb. 25 afternoon.
The President said the screen adaptation of the book Dilan: Dia Adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990 (Dilan: He’s My Dilan in 1990) captured a teenager’s life and was well narrated.
“Simple and not overdone, just right. This is the reason everyone wants to watch the movie, and I must spread this message,” said the President.
Noticing that Dilan 1990 has garnered more than 6 million viewers in about a month, the head of the state expressed hope the nation’s creative industry could develop further in the future. Opportunities are vast and the film industry is one of them.

The President watched the movie accompanied by his daughter Kahiyang Ayu and son-in-law Bobby Nasution. Meanwhile, the first lady Iriana Joko Widodo was in Surakarta, Central Java, to attend a wedding party.
Saying there were three wedding parties they had to attend that evening, the President and first lady decided to split duties. He said he wished the first lady were with him to watch the movie, though.
Following the movie screening, Widodo had a conversation with Dilan 1990 director Fajar Bustomo and a couple of cast members, namely Ira Wibowo, who played Dilan’s mother, and Andryos Aryanto who played Nandan, Dilan’s rival. (mut)
