ndonesian actor and martial artist Iko Uwais is set to star in Netflix’s upcoming action sci-fi crime drama series Wu Assassins.

According to Deadline, Netflix has arranged for a 10-episode series to be made, which will be directed by Stephen Fung (Into the Badlands) as well as Tony Krantz (24).

John Wirth is said to be the showrunner as well as writer of the show (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; Falling Skies).

Also featuring Byron Mann (Altered Carbon), the production for the series is set to start on Aug. 8.

Aside from acting, Uwais is said to serve as producer, fight choreographer and stunt coordinator.

Set in the Chinatown of San Francisco, Wu Assassins boasts supernatural aspects with Uwais playing Kai Jin, the last Wu Assassin, who is chosen to gather an ancient triad’s powers and return balance to the world.

Uwais gained popularity in Hollywood after starring in The Raid, The Raid 2 and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He is currently finishing the post-production phase of Mile 22, in which he also served as co-fight choreographer. (kes)
