Get out your wands and tridents – Christmas has come early for fanboys.
Every year, San Diego Comic-Con offers delightful surprises for science-fiction and fantasy lovers.
This year's convention has done the same, without fail, with a series of new teasers and trailers. Some videos were exclusive to Comic-Con attendees, like the teaser for It: Chapter 2, but luckily for us, new trailers for highly anticipated movies were uploaded on YouTube after debuting at Comic-Con.
Without further ado, here are five new trailers from Comic-Con that are sure to put fuel in the hype train:
The trailer teases the origin story of how half-Atlantean Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) became Aquaman. Upon viewing the first 30 seconds of the trailer, one cannot help but think of a scene from the Harry Potter franchise in which Harry talks to a snake behind a glass wall.
As an adult, land-dweller Arthur must go back to Atlantis to stop his brother Orm (Patrick Wilson), the present King of Atlantis, from declaring war against humans. The vivid and enchanting visuals of the Atlantis kingdom look promising enough, and better than the notorious CGI in Justice League.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
The trailer opens with the sight of good old Hogwarts. There, a young student, Newton "Newt" Scamander (Joshua Shea), reveals in class that his biggest fear is "having to work in an office". It seems that the second installment of the Fantastic Beasts series will focus on how older Newt (Eddie Redmayne) and beloved headmaster Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) team up to catch a powerful dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), who escaped after the end of the first movie.
While the first film was set in the United States, this one takes place in Europe. Still, some characters from America make an appearance, including "No-Maj" Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), sisters Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Porpentina "Tina" Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), and the tortured Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller). Famed alchemist Nicholas Flamel is expected to get some screen time as well.
Are superheroes real, or are they just delusional? Dr. Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) makes it her mission to find out the answer, with three extraordinary patients under her care.
Glass is the third and final installment in M. Night Shyamalan's "Eastrail 177 Trilogy", following Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016). The movie reunites three superhumans: the fragile genius Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson), the man of 23 separate personalities, Kevin Wendell Crumb, (James McAvoy) and heroic David Dunn (Bruce Willis).
Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Go away, humans. The monsters are back, and in the words of director Michael Dougherty, they are trying to "reclaim the Earth". The movie pays homage to the kaiju genre, with the appearance of Rodan, Mothra and the three-headed King Ghidorah.
The human cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, O'Shea Jackson and Charles Dance. A secret, likely villainous organization, Monarch, looks to play a central role in the movie.
After years of being put through commercial flops, DC fanboys deserve a solid superhero movie beyond Wonder Woman. The trailer for Shazam! is lighthearted and funny, standing in stark contrast to the studio's usual grim, desaturated look. Main character Billy Batson finds himself with an alter-ego as superhero Shazam, played by Zachary Levi (who previously appeared in Thor).
According to several reports, DC will take a step back from its rather disastrous expanded universe to focus on standalone movies. Indeed, with Shazam!, it seems that DC is pushing the reset button.

Fun fact: Shazam was initially called Captain Marvel, but the superhero was rebranded because of a trademark dispute with Marvel Comics. A movie on Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson is set to hit the screens in 2019. (kes)
