ationalPolice chief Gen. Sutarman said on Tuesday that the Royal Malaysian Policeintended to release Adj. Sr. Comr. Idha Endri Prastiono and Brig. Harahap, whowere arrested on Aug. 30 for their alleged involvement in global drug trafficking.
He said the Malaysian police had not found any evidence to prove the allegations that the two men had smuggled drugs into the country.
'According to the latest information, the two officers [Endri and Harahap] are believed to have had no involvement with a drug ring. Therefore, they will be sent home,' Sutarman said as quoted by kompas.com.
He said some of his officers had flown to Malaysia to handle the administrative process for the repatriation of the two policemen.
'Malaysia, like Indonesia, is very firm on drug cases. Any foreigners found smuggling drugs, supported by strong evidence and witness testimonies, will be punished,' the former detective chief said.
The Malaysian authorities arrested Idha and Harahap in Kuching on Aug. 30 over suspicions that they intended to accept a package containing drugs from a Filipino mule, identified as Chusi or Sonya, who had been arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport shortly before. (alz/dic)
