he South Jakarta District Court has sentenced controversial cleric Guntur Bumi to six months' imprisonment after he was found guilty of continuous fraud as he gave alternative medication to his patients.
'We find the defendant guilty of continuous fraud and we sentence him to six months in prison,' presiding judge Haswandi said during the court hearing on Wednesday.
The panel of judges found Guntur guilty of violating Article 378 of the Criminal Code for enriching himself by deceiving patients who paid millions of rupiah for medical treatment.
The sentence was heavier than the punishment sought by prosecutors, who asked the judges to sentence Guntur to four months imprisonment.
'The sentence is heavier because we hope that you [Guntur] will learn from this,' Haswandi said.
