City-owned bus operator PT Transjakarta aims to procure around 1,300 new buses in 2015.
Transjakarta president director Antonius Steve Kosasih said Transjakarta currently had 700 active buses, with 250 of them in need of urgent repairs and replacement.
'The procurement should be done to provide better transportation services to the public,' Antonius said in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He also said that the company would be extra careful in procuring buses next year so that the debacle surrounding the procurement of buses in 2013 would not reoccur.
When the buses were delivered earlier in the year, many of the Chinese-made units arrived rusted, with parts missing and unsuitable for use.
The city administration reportedly spent Rp 1 trillion (US$85 million) on the procurement.
The company would uphold the same standards for all bus operators that were willing to procure the new bus fleet.
'We prefer to purchase buses from brands that have offices, workshops and spare parts in Jakarta,' he added. (dyl/nfo).
