Jakarta Police spokesman Sr
akarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Friday that his institution would rehabilitate 34 West Jakarta Police officers proven to have consumed methamphetamine through urine tests, instead of imposing firm punishment on them or dismissing them.
On Thursday evening, the 34 police officers were found to have consumed illicit drugs after the Jakarta Police conducted a raid in Kampung Ambon, West Jakarta, considered one of the capital's drug havens.
'We will conduct a code of ethics trial if they consume illicit drugs again. The trial aims to assess their behavior as police officers,' Rikwanto said as quoted by kompas.com.
He said that during the rehabilitation process, the police officers would be trained physically and mentally for a month.
In the mental training, for instance, they had to engage in religious discussions to help them strengthen their faith.
He said that the institution would assess the police officers again after they had accomplished the one-month rehabilitation.
The Jakarta Police were committed to conducting more raids in the coming months to net more police officers who had consumed illicit drugs. (alz/nfo)
