KPK raids Transportation Ministry

T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched the Transportation Ministry on Thursday, which is led by Democratic Party politician EE Mangindaan.

The raid was carried out in regard to a multibillion rupiah graft case on the construction of a voyage training facility in Sorong regency, West Papua, in 2011.

The ministry is located on Jl. Merdeka Barat in Central Jakarta.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said the search was meant to collect evidence to uncover more suspects following the naming of the first suspect in the case on Thursday.

'€œAs of now BRK is the only suspect, but the investigation is progressing. The suspect is the former general manager of state construction company PT Hutama Karya,'€ Johan said during a press conference at KPK headquarters on Thursday, referring to Budi Rachmat Kurniawan by his initials.

Budi is serving as Hutama Karya'€™s development director.

Johan said that KPK investigators had confiscated a number of documents from Thursday'€™s raid, but refused to disclose further what other evidence investigators had seized from the ministry.

Asked if Magindaan'€™s office had been searched, Johan said the raid was focused on collecting evidence '€œin a number of rooms'€ at the ministry.
