he rupiah interbank trade rate in Jakarta in Tuesday's final trading session appreciated by 34 basis points to Rp 12,473 per US dollar from Rp 12,507 per US dollar in earlier trade.
PT Platon Niaga Berjangka analyst Lukman Leong said the appreciation of the domestic currency was triggered by low sentiment from the external market.
'Greece has become an important factor in the market following the left-wing Syriza Party's win in the election. Market players are worried about the Eurozone economic development since Syriza is an anti-bailout party,' Lukman said in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
'However, since the [Syriza Party] leader announced he would negotiate, market players are less worried about the future of the [European] economy.'
In addition, he said that fundamentally, the Indonesian economy remained healthy and investors were optimistic that at least 5.6 percent gross domestic product (GDP) growth could be achieved by the end of 2015.
'The rupiah has a good chance of strengthening to Rp 12,300 per dollar in the near future,' he added.
He cautioned, however, that tensions between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police might affect the rupiah trade if they persisted.
'Investors will consider the tensions before investing in the country,' he explained.
Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia's mid rate data showed that the rupiah appreciated to Rp 12,493 per dollar by 4 p.m. on Tuesday from Rp 12,517 per dollar on Monday. (nfo)(++++)
