akarta city councilor Bestari Barus of the Nasdem Party has admitted that so far this year councilors have "not done any significant work".

"This year, the councilors have not done any significant work aside from the right of inquiry [against Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama]. We haven't even begun discussions on the draft bylaws proposed by the city administration. There are 17 draft bylaws this year. By May we should have at least finished discussing three of them," Bestari said on Tuesday.

He said that the councilors have focused more on their right of inquiry and right of opinion and less on their job to discuss the bylaws.

"Most of the councilors are too distracted with the right of inquiry and right of opinion against the governor. It's better that we do our actual job rather than sit around doing nothing," said Bestari, who is one of the few councilors who has maintained positive relations with Ahok. (hhr)
