'There is potential for high waves in Aceh waters and the Indian Ocean, the western part of Simeulue Island,' said spokesman for BMKG in Aceh Besar Zakaria as quoted by Antara news agency on Saturday.
According to Zakaria, the height of waves in Sabang and Banda Aceh waters are predicted to reach between 2 and 2.5 meters, while those in the northern, eastern, western and southern side of the province could reach between 1.2 and 2 meters.
He added that light rain was expected in Aceh until Monday, with wind surface reaching 914 meters, moving from the southwest at a speed of 5 to 38 kilometers per hour.
The BMKG also warns the people of Aceh, a population of around 4.5 million people, to brace for the potential growth of clouds and rain followed by thunderstorms in the waters of Sabang-Banda Aceh and Simeulu-Meulaboh. (edn/kes)(+++)
