gurah Rai International Airport in Bali has had to close again because of ash clouds from the eruption of Mount Raung in neighboring East Java province.
'We've had to shut down the airport again based on a recommendation by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency [BMKG],' said the airport's co-general manager I Gusti Ngurah Ardita on Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Activities at Ngurah Rai were halted at 6.30 a.m. and are expected to remain so until 12 noon at the earliest.
The on-off activity at the airport is certain to disrupt dozens of domestic as well as international flight schedules in Bali.
Thousands of passengers have reportedly been unable to reach their destinations in several cities in the archipelago. Most have opted to remain at the airport to wait for revised schedules from their airlines. (kes)
