oreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi is hopeful that the international Islamic Cooperation Organization (OKI) will agree on the establishment of a Contact Group on Joint Islamic Strategic Action (JISA) to handle terrorism and extremism, as proposed by the government.

During a meeting with OKI secretary-general Iyad Ameen Madani, who visited Indonesia on Thursday and Friday, Retno said JISA would benefit OKI countries and strengthen the view that terrorism and extremism are not in line with the teachings of Islam.

'€œIt is a follow-up to the President'€™s [Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo] proposal which he delivered during a meeting between Islamic countries at the Asian-African Conference [KAA] in Bandung in May,'€ said Retno in a press release on Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Madani said efforts had been made so that the OKI and Indonesia could cooperate to overcome crisis and terrorism.

'€œThe OKI is the first international organization to adopt the Convention on Combating International Terrorism,'€ added Madani.

During the meeting, Madani also delivered an invitation to Indonesia to attend OKI summits in 2015 and 2016. (kes)(++++)
