ogor city administration plans to buy plots of land to expand its agricultural land bank, which has shrunk to only 400 hectares from the approximately 1,000 ha it had in 1995, an official has said.
Bogor administration secretary Ade Sarip Hidayat said the land purchase was a bid to satisfy residents' needs for food. The land will be tilled by local farmers, who hopefully can increase their income.
The Bogor city administration would also prevent agricultural land from being converted into other uses, added head of Bogor Food Agriculture and Horticulture Agency Wawan Darwan.
The administration will draft a regulation derived from Law No. 41/2009 on land conversion. 'The regulation will restrict land conversion. Agricultural land can be handed to other parties, but it cannot be converted into residential or industrial areas,' said Wawan on Wednesday as quoted by wartakotalive.com.
