The House of Representatives' Commission III, which among its other responsibilities oversees graft eradication, will elect five new commissioners to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday night.
House Commission III member Nasir Djamil expressed optimism on Tuesday that the election of the five KPK commissioners from the 10 candidates proposed by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo would take place as scheduled.
'Of course, the election should be finished because it is mandated by law. On Wednesday night, we will hold the election,' Nazir said as reported by kompas.com. He expressed the hope that Commission III would elect the best candidates.
On Tuesday, the House commission interviewed four candidates, namely Surya Tjandra, Robby Arya Brata, Basariah Panjaitan and Agus Rahardjo. The previous day the commission interviewed Sujanarko, Alexander Marwata, Johan Budi Sapto Pibowo and Saut Situmorang.
On Wednesday, the commission was to interview two other candidates: Laode Muhammad Syarif and Busryo Muqqodas.
The eight candidates who were proposed by President Jokowi were selected from 500 applicants by the nine members on the selection team led by Destry Damayanti after being scrutinized from June to August.
Meanwhile, the remaining two candidates, Laode and Busryo, were elected during the tenure of then-president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. (bbn)(+)
