Indonesian R&B/neo soul singer Teza Sumendra recently released a music video for his single "I Want You, Love' on YouTube.
The black-and-white video, which features actress Tara Basro, was initially only available for viewing on iTunes, but the 28-year-old singer decided to release it to a wider audience on YouTube.
In the music video, Teza and Tara are portrayed as lovers, playing out intimate scenes that may be deemed risqué by many Indonesians.
'I recently obtained the rights to all my songs, including the clip; I'm going back to being an independent [artist] and people have been asking me about the clip for quite some time now ['¦] It's good that I can activate the age restriction option on YouTube to make sure only age appropriate viewers can see it,' Teza told thejakartapost.com via e-mail.
The single is taken from his self-titled comprising 12 tracks, 11 of which are in English. Teza said shooting the video was both a fun and awkward experience.
'It is awkward to do those sort of things in front of a video crew, but it was fun to act out those scenes with Tara Basro since we're friends," he said.
The video has been viewed 30,000 times and more than 1,000 of YouTubers have given it a thumbs-up.
'The response has been overwhelmingly positive so far. I didn't expect the majority of people to accept or appreciate this concept. It took me by surprise, considering what happened with the KPI [Indonesian Broadcasting Commission] and some morally righteous people recently," he added. (kes)(+)
