A

traffic pileup involving a bus, two cars and two motorcycles claimed 10 lives on Jl. Kolonel Masturi, Cipageran, Cimahi, West Java, on Friday afternoon.

The accident began after the driver of a Parahyangan bus, who was speeding toward Cimahi from Cisarua, lost control over the bus, reportedly due to brake failure.

West Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said the ill-fated bus rammed into a lane divider belonging to The Orchard residence before hitting a tire workshop. The bus then rolled over and continued sliding.

“It collided into two cars and two motorcycles coming from the opposite direction,” Yusri said in a phone message.

Police have confirmed that 10 people died in the accident, while 22 others sustained injuries. All victims were taken to nearby Cibabat hospital in Cimahi. (dmr)
