P

arents of Indonesian gold medalists Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir say they couldn’t be prouder of their children and expect the dynamic duo to take a well-deserved and lengthy holiday.

Olly Maramis, mother of Liliyana Natsir, said she was in the capital to share her daughter's achievement and to accompany her during her victory journey.

"Liliyana plans to stay in Manado longer than usual for a holiday. She usually gets only three days, but now we expect longer than that," Olly told journalists.

She added that a series of family gatherings had been arranged to welcome Liliyana.

Olly added that even though she couldn’t accompany her daughter in Rio, she had watched every match.

"I could tell whenever something wrong during the match and I always tell her not to lose patience with Owi. They have to stick together no matter what," she said.

Speaking in the same tone, Tontowi's father Husni Muzaitun acknowledged that he was proud of his son's achievement.

"I have been contacted by the [local] regent regarding events to welcome my son home, but we still have to discuss that," he said.

Both parents are in Jakarta by the invitation of the Youth and Sports Ministry to welcome their son and daughter back from Rio de Janeiro. (bbn)
