P

rosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Mardani Ali Sera, who used to be paired by his party with Sandiaga Uno, has stressed he and his party endorsed the nomination of former national education and culture minister Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga for the Jakarta gubernatorial election.

"For Jakarta's interests, we won't mind. If we gather here to announce the candidates, we should win this election," Mardani said on Friday at Gerindra chairman Prabowo Subianto's house in South Jakarta.

Previously, PKS had proposed Mardani to become Sandiaga's running mate, but lately Anies has reportedly been favored as the gubernatorial candidate to be paired with Sandiaga.

Meanwhile, PKS Central Executive Board head Muzzammil Yusuf said that Mardani would be appointed to lead the campaign team for the candidates.

On Friday afternoon, Sandiaga and Anies prayed together at Al Taqwa mosque near Prabowo's house. Sandiaga and Anies

told the congregation to give their support to the pair.

Chairman of the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU) Sumarno said that two more pairs would register to the

commission's headquarters on Friday evening.

Incumbent pair Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Puranama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat registered to KPU in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, four parties -- Democratic Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), National Mandate Party (PAN) and United Development Party (PPP) – reportedly have decided to nominate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni.  (bbn)
