T

he military police are investigating a soldier accused of hitting an aviation security officer last Friday at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, a top military official has said.

Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo said the soldier, who was a protocol officer for a two-star Army General when he reportedly committed the violence, would be held responsible and sanctioned for his actions if found guilty.

"Even though the Transportation Ministry has settled [the incident] all military personnel who commit such wrongful acts should face the law," Gatot said on Monday, adding that the sanction would depend on the result of the court process.

The incident reportedly began when Eni Roheni, an aviation security officer, asked the two-star general to take off his belt and wristwatch during a security screening. When the general refused to take them off, another officer named Agus Salim helped Eni to complete the procedures.

However, a military officer then approached Agus and hit him twice on his face and once on his stomach and challenged Agus to fight him.

The military officer walked away after an Air Force military police officer assigned for airport security approached him, Kompas.com reported. (bbn)
