F

ormer president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has claimed that the government received false intelligence in regard to the allegations that a political party is behind the planned demonstration on Friday against Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama.

“If there is such intelligence analysis, I think it is dangerous. First, it is slander and secondly, it is an insult to the people because they are not paid [protesters],” said Yudhoyono in a press conference at his house in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, as reported by kompas.com.

Yudhoyono reportedly collected information about false intelligence from various organizations, including data from the National Police to the government, which he crosschecked to relevant parties.

“I hope what I heard was wrong. Intelligence analysis, including from the police, said there was a party that funded and stirred a political party, which has an interest to stir the massive demonstration,” he added.

On Tuesday, Yudhoyono met Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto and Vice President Jusuf Kalla. During the meeting, Yudhoyono reportedly clarified that he was not behind the massive demonstration organized by a number of Islamic organizations.

He called on the law enforcers to fairly and seriously investigate the alleged religious defamation against Ahok. He also expressed hope that the demonstration would take place peacefully. (bbn)
