T

he National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) has started its investigation into a Wings Air plane that overshot the runway at Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang on Sunday evening.

Ahmad Yani Airport general manager Oriyo Jatmiko said the incident involving the ATR 72-600 plane, which was operated by the Lion Air subsidiary, had occurred during heavy rain and strong winds. According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), winds reached 16 knots at that time.

“The cause will be determined by the KNKT, which will look at the black box. It has already carried out its preliminary investigation,” Priyo said in Semarang on Sunday night as reported by kompas.com.

He said the KNKT had taken the black box and would soon determine the cause of the accident.
