he tax office headquarters in South Jakarta has handled a soaring number of applicants for the government’s tax amnesty program during the final week of the year, which also marks the end of the program’s second period.
On Friday morning, hundreds of people were lined up to submit tax amnesty applications, some of them even arrived at 6 a.m.
“The number of tax amnesty applicants reached 1,200 per day this week, a lot higher than last month with about 500 applicants per day,” said tax officer Normadin Budiman, who serves as the tax amnesty coordinator at the office.

Normadin said most applications received in the final days of the tax amnesty’s second period, which will end on Dec. 31, were from individual taxpayers or small and medium enterprises.
The tax office headquarters on Jl. Gatot Subroto has prepared two separate locations to serve tax amnesty applicants, both are open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. with limited queue numbers of 1,300.
“As you know in our culture, people tend to submit everything at the last minute. Thus, to anticipate the surge in tax applications, we will standby until 11 p.m. today and midnight tomorrow,” tax office spokesperson Hestu Yoga Saksama told The Jakarta Post. (hwa)
