A Cessna 172 training plane crashed at Blimbingsari Airport in Banyuwangi, East Java, on Monday morning injuring the cadet pilot.

The plane, owned by Mandiri Utama Flight Academy, was solo piloted by Regina Martalia, 19, when it crash landed on the runway, East Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Barung Mangera said.

“The aircraft was too fast and dipped too much when it was about to land. Consequently, the front landing gear collapsed, its propellers and front fuselage connected with the runway,” Barung told The Jakarta Post. The front end of the plane then caught fire.

Regina survived after jumping out of the plane, she suffered light injuries and was treated at Muhammadiyah Hospital in Rogojampi.

Blimbingsari airport was closed until 2 p.m.
