resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has once again called on his Cabinet to cut gas prices for several industries to encourage further development in the downstream industry.
"I ask that gas prices be calculated meticulously so that we can see concrete effects in increasing our competitiveness and creating added value for our downstream industry," he said during the opening of a limited Cabinet meeting at the State Palace on Tuesday.
Jokowi ordered the industry minister and the energy and mineral resources minister to report on the current implementation process and obstacles to gas price cuts for four out of seven industries stipulated in Government Regulation No. 40/2016 on gas prices.

So far, the government has only managed to issue a decree to cut gas prices below US$6 per million British thermal units in the petrochemical, steel and fertilizer industries.
The remaining four industries are the oleochemical, glass, ceramics and rubber gloves industries. (tas)
