upporters of Jakarta soccer club Persija, popularly known as Jakmania, have showed their support for Jakarta gubernatorial candidate pair Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni in front of Bidakara Hotel in South Jakarta where the second debate is taking place on Friday night.

The Jakmania members could be seen among hundreds of Agus-Sylvi supporters grouped under Komunitas Agus Sylvi (Kasava), while carrying "Persija" banners.

"There are 300 to 400 volunteers who are supporting Agus here. Some of them haven't come because of the rain," Kasava head Predyansyah said, adding that the Jakmania members were from South Jakarta.

The supporters, who were mostly young people, chanted "Agus, Sylvi; Agus, Sylvi, sure to win". Some of them even danced enthusiastically, while carrying banners in the rain.

Predyansyah said that Agus-Sylviana supporters had booked two cafes near the debate venues, namely Raja's Coffee and Resto and Maria's Cafe and Resto, to hold a group viewing, locally known as nonton bareng or nobar, of the debate.

Previously, gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan promised to build a soccer stadium comparable to the UK's Old Trafford stadium for Persija if elected governor in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election slated to be held on February 15.

Anies said he was aware of the complaints made by the club's supporters, known as The Jakmania, about the facility for the team and its fan club. Anies' running mate Sandiaga said that he would build the stadium at the BMW Park in Sunter, North Jakarta.
