The management of Pulogebang low-cost apartments in East Jakarta is planning a tenant empowerment program to lure tourists.
"We have urban farming, integrated waste management and eateries, all organized by tenants. Hopefully these apartments will become an urban tourist spot," head of the Pulogebang apartment management, Ageng Darminto, said.
Ageng added that some groups of tenants had also developed creative economies by producing handicraft, including batik sulam (embroidery) and sewing.

The management will cooperate with the Jakarta Small and Medium Enterprises and Trade Agency and the Jakarta chapter of the National Handicraft Board to help ensure the quality of the handicrafts as well as assist the tenants in marketing the products.
"Hopefully, this effort will improve the tenants' economy," Ageng was quoted by as saying by beritajakarta.com.
