embers of the Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) and Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in Jepara, Central Java, plan to reuse campaign signs for other purposes in a bid to reduce the amount of waste from campaign materials.

Election officers across 101 regions due to hold simultaneous elections on Feb. 15 have worked to ensure there are no campaign materials left up during the cooling-off period from Feb. 12 to 14.

Panwaslu Jepara member Muhammad Oliz said on Monday the seized materials had been piled up at the committee’s office.

He said that the committee had asked campaign teams to take and reuse their campaign materials rather than just trashing them.

“Signs such as big banners and billboards could be used as tent roofs for instance. The wood can also be reused,” Oliz said.

He added that the committee had asked Public Order officers to help them take down campaign signs across the regency. (bbs)
