uni Yani and his lawyers asked the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) on Monday to monitor his hate speech case for any irregularities in the legal process.
Buni Yani, who posted excerpts of a video showing Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama deliver a speech that referenced a Quranic verse in Thousand Islands regency in September 2016, complained that the police and prosecutors were bouncing his case back and forth without a resolution in sight. One of Buni’s lawyers, Aldwin Rahadian, said this created uncertainty for his client.
“Last I heard was that the case file was returned back by the West Java Prosecutor’s Office to the investigators. This has been happening over and over,” Aldwin said.
Komnas HAM commissioner Hafidz Abbas said they would look into Buni Yani’s report first to determine what kind of assistance they could provide him.
“Buni Yani’s case is actually very simple, but we have to determine why the investigation is taking so long,” Hafidz said. The police said Buni violated article 28 of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law on spreading information that incited hatred. (rdi)
