he Jakarta administration has stepped up efforts to ensure sufficient food stocks and to anticipate rising food prices ahead of the Ramadhan Islamic fasting month, when demand significantly increases.
Jakarta Economic Affairs bureau head Sri Haryati said her office had conducted a study that aimed to find out potential food demand during the holy month, which will start in May.
“We have prepared a measure to anticipate soaring food prices,” she said on Tuesday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
She added that a number of city-owned enterprises (BUMD), such as slaughterhouse company PD Dharma Jaya, traditional market operator PD Pasar Jaya and PT Food Station Cipinang, had planned strategic moves to ensure sufficient food supply and distribution.
“We are ready to assist in the running of cheap food festivals, which will be held in several locations in Jakarta,” she said. (fac)
