he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is probing six officials at the Finance Ministry’s Directorate General of Customs and Excise in its investigation into an alleged bribery case that has implicated former Constitutional Court (MK) justice Patrialis Akbar and businessman Basuki Hariman, a commissioner has said.
“The [KPK] investigators need information from customs and excise authorities to clarify crucial information related to the case. We are looking into the business interests of Basuki’s companies’ in beef import activities,” KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah told journalists on Tuesday.
He said the KPK had questioned six witnesses from the customs and excise office as it stepped up its investigation into Basuki’s case.
As reported earlier, KPK investigators raided the customs and excise office in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, on March 6. Customs and Excise director Heru Pambudi said during the raid that KPK officers had requested documents relating to nine beef import companies they needed in their investigation into the case.
Apart from Patrialis and Basuki, the KPK has also named Ng Fenny, Basuki’s secretary, and Kamaluddin, an alleged broker between Patrialis and Basuki, suspects in the case.
Patrialis allegedly accepted bribes from Basuki as part of the latter's attempt to rig the judicial review process of Law No. 41/2014 on Cattle and Animal Health. (mrc/ebf)
