he sole distributor of Suzuki cars in Indonesia, PT Suzuki Indonesia Sales (SIS), aims to increase monthly sales by 20 percent to around 10,000 cars in the coming months from 8,000 monthly units in the first quarter by introducing an Indian-manufactured SUV, the Suzuki Ignis.
SIS’s sales division head Makmur said the new model was expected to increase its share in the domestic market to over 10 percent this year, with the Ignis contributing around 2,000 units to monthly sales.
“Earlier in 2017, our market share declined to 8.8 percent from 9.1 percent in 2016,” Makmur said on Monday.
According to the Indonesian Automotive Association (Gaikindo), Suzuki sold 92,950 cars in 2016, contributing to total domestic car sales of 1,062,729 units.

SIS production head Yulius Purwanto said the Ignis, with its rigid underbody of high-tensile steel, was suitable for young, sporty customers, because it would be reliable for off-road terrain.
"The fuel consumption of the Suzuki Ignis with manual transmission is about 23.64 kilometers per liter," Yulius said. After Jakarta, Suzuki Ignis will be simultaneously introduced in 35 major cities in Indonesia on Thursday, he added. (yon/bbn)
