T

he lawyer of perjury suspect Miryam S.Haryani, Aga Khan, is set to report the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) decision to put the former House of Representatives member on its most-wanted list to the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).

“We will ask for assistance from Komnas HAM. We want the commission to give Bu Miryam protection as an Indonesian citizen,” Aga told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

The lawyer deplored the KPK’s decision to respond to a pretrial motion demanded by the Hanura Party politician by putting her on the DPO list. He said it was his client’s legal right to submit such a request.

Aga further said that Miryam had been cooperative with the KPK. He said the lawyer team had also notified the commission in written form about the submission of her client’s pretrial hearing request to challenge her naming as a suspect.

The KPK sent a letter on the inclusion of Miryam on its DPO list to the National Police and the National Central Bureau (NCB) Interpol Indonesia on Thursday.

Aga said the lawyer team also planned to explain its objection to its client’s DPO status to the National Police. “The police have a special regulation on pretrial motions, in which they can temporarily halt an investigation if a suspect files a pretrial hearing request,” he said.

Miryam, a House member for the 2009-2014 period, is accused of having given false statements in March when she testified as a witness in an e-ID case hearing for defendants Irman and Sugiharto, two former Home Ministry officials. (dis/ebf)
