fter experiencing a traumatic 2016, South Korean technology company Samsung has composed itself and released its long-awaited smartphone models, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8+, which will be available in Indonesia from this week.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ were claimed to be “better than for the Galaxy S7,” with orders being one-and-a-half times more than orders for the last model. Samsung said that while the premium smartphone market suffered during 2016, the company managed to achieve 22 percent business growth in Indonesia as it led the local premium smartphone industry.
This was despite the disastrous Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, which saw the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones explode in people’s hands due to faulty a battery.
To make sure there is no recurrence of the problem, Samsung Electronics Indonesia vice president of IT and mobile business So Djien Gie said adequate research had been done to prevent the same thing happening with the S8 or with any future Samsung smartphone model.
He said the new S8 and S8+ models set a new standard for quality and user experience, with improved features, including the acclaimed Infinity Display screen, more advanced cameras and updated biometrics features.
The two models will roll out in Indonesia starting with a consumer launch campaign in Jakarta, Medan and Surabaya from May 5 to 7. The Galaxy S8 will be priced at Rp 10.49 million (US$788) and the Galaxy S8+ will be priced at Rp 11.99 million. (bbn)
