ourier firm Lion Parcel, a subsidiary of Lion Air Group, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Wednesday with fintech company PT Bimasakti Multi Sinergi as part of its service network expansion plans across the archipelago.
“We currently have about 5,000 points of sale and about 1,370 of them are highly active and very productive. The cooperation with Bimasakti will provide 4,000 additional units,” Lion Parcel president director Gunardi told reporters in Jakarta.
The cooperation with Bimasakti, he added, would strengthen and expand Lion Parcel’s reach in East Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta and West Java, where the 4,000 units will be based.
“Bimasakti with its FASTPAY network, an online payment system, has about 93,000 outlets from Sabang in Aceh to Merauke in Papua with 2 million customers. But for the first two years of the contract, we’ll cooperate with the 4,000 outlets first,” Gunardi explained.
Lion Parcel booked about 100,000 orders per month throughout 2016 and the company hopes to increase that number by up to five times this year.
“We are optimistic because we have our own 200-strong fleet with more than 1,000 flights every day,” Gunadi said.
Gunadi said online shopping deliveries accounted for about 50 percent of the total parcels.
He said the total value of the courier business was worth about Rp 150 trillion (US$11.28 billion). (dra/bbn)
