ndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri’s meeting on Saturday with top party officials and cadres was closed to the press.
Megawati met with her cadres during the party’s national working meeting (Rakernas) at the Grand Bali Beach Hotel in Sanur, Bali.
High-ranking party officials, including Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly, Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani and Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Puspayoga, attended the meeting.
Representatives of the party's regional branches across Indonesia were also present.
The party’s internal security officers closely guarded the meeting and prevented journalists from observing it. “I’m sorry the meeting is closed to the press,” said a PDI-P security guard as quoted by Antara.
A number of PDI-P flags hoisted at the venue and in areas across Bali were reportedly taken down prior to the meeting.
“We hoisted a number of party flags along main roads and in several strategic locations but higher authorities in the party ordered us to take them down,” organizing committee member Made Widia said. (mrc/ebf)
