Ever wonder how a president spends his weekends? Well, if you ask President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo his answer might be endless work and plenty of travel.
The clock seems to tick faster for the President who in the past two months has undertaken many overseas and domestic trips. In Riyadh on Sunday Jokowi delivered a five-minute speech to the leaders of Muslim-majority countries and United States President Donald Trump, he and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo then rushed to return home.
Hours after arriving back from Saudi Arabia, Jokowi and Iriana welcomed Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia at Bogor Palace in West Java on Monday.
However, the President has shown no sign of fatigue since the trip.
The Riyadh trip gave a glimpse into the President’s tight schedule. Although there is no exact regulation of a president’s work schedule, prior to April Jokowi always spent leisurely weekends at the Bogor Palace. However, these past two months have seen the President continue working on Saturdays and Sundays.
How does he maintain the stamina for such a packed schedule? The answer appears to lie in the skills of his personal chef Tri Supriharjo who has explained how he routinely prepares jamu (a herbal drink) for the President. The concoction comprises eight slices of curcuma, three slices of ginger and six slices of turmeric.
“In the past he used a small cup, but now he uses a big mug to drink jamu,” Tri said in a video posted on Jokowi’s YouTube channel last week.
