ational flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia predicts that the peak of the returning flow during this year’s exodus season will occur on July 2.
“We predict that the returning flow will take place at least from June 29 to July 6, with the peak happening on July 2,” Garuda Indonesia president director Pahala Mansury said in Jakarta on Sunday.
Garuda has prepared around 280 extra flights and 2.1 million seats to cater to travelers in the two weeks before and after Idul Fitri.
“We will see. Hopefully, the seats will be enough to fulfill the demand for this year,” he said, adding that Garuda had also prepared 38 self-service counters in Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to facilitate faster check-in.
The company has reported mostly fully booked flights with a 100 percent load factor in its domestic and international flights.
It said it expects to see better financial performance in the second quarter of 2017 following the Idul Fitri exodus.
In the first quarter, Garuda recorded a net loss of US$98.5 million, seeing a significant drop compared to the net profit of $1.02 million it booked in the same period last year. (dea/tas)
