elkomsel, Indonesia's largest telecommunications operator, recorded sharp increases in data usage during this year’s Lebaran to more than 6,000 terabytes, a 136 percent increase from last year’s recorded data usage during Idul Fitri.
"Social media and video streaming services dominated the use of our data services during Lebaran," said Telkomsel vice president for corporate communications Adita Irawati as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Meanwhile, data usage during Idul Fitri Day on Sunday increased by 27 percent compared to average usage on the other days, she added.

The company’s data shows that the increases occurred in several areas that were homecoming areas.
In Sumatra, there was a 36 percent increase in usage, while in Java and Yogyakarta – there was a 32 percent increase compared to usage on regular days.
"We are very happy that we could provide the best services to our customers. We anticipated the surge of data during Lebaran and improved the quality of our networks," Adita said.
Meanwhile, the increase in data usage was not followed by increases in calls and short messaging services (sms).
Telkomsel notes that its call services decreased by about 6 percent to 1.3 billion per minute from regular days, while the use of sms was stagnant at 740 million messages per minute. (rdi/bbn)
