he central government has issued land certificates for islets C and D – as part of reclaimed land in Jakarta’s northern coast – to the Jakarta administration – months before the inauguration of governor-elect Anies Baswedan and his running mate, Sandiaga Uno, who opposed the reclamation projects.

Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil said the “management rights” of the two islets were held by the city administration.

“The developer has been given a building-use permit (HGB),” said Sofyan in Jakarta on Sunday after handing over land certificates to the city as reported by tempo.co, referring to PT Kapuk Naga Indah, a subsidiary of Agung Sedayu Group.

Reclamation was a burning issue prior to the Jakarta gubernatorial election, particularly because in their campaign, Anies and Sandiaga rejected the program, saying that if elected, they would stop the reclamation projects.

The reclamation program was also met with opposition from several environmental groups and fisherfolk.

Meanwhile, Sudirman Said, chairman of the team tasked by Anies and Sandi to discuss the matter with the current city administration, said his team would track the progress of reclaimed land certification and report its findings to Anies and Sandiaga.

“After Pak Anies is inaugurated, he will surely study all aspects and listen to the explanation from Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat and President Jokowi “Jokowi” Widodo because the central government is involved with the reclamation,” said Sudirman as reported by kompas.com.
