he Jambi Police’s narcotics investigation directorate has destroyed the evidence of drug crimes uncovered during recent operations.
Confiscated from several drug suspects arrested between September and October, the evidence comprised 4,529.93 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 9,969 ecstasy pills and 41,020 grams of marijuana.
Jambi Police chief Brig.Gen. Priyo Widyanto said the destruction of the drugs was conducted after the police received an approval letter from the Jambi Prosecutors’ Office.
“We also aim to avoid new crimes, such as the misuse of drug crime evidence by irresponsible persons,” said Priyo during the destruction of the drugs at the Jambi Police headquarters on Wednesday.
He said, however, that not all the evidence was destroyed. Small amounts of the drugs were being kept so they could be used as evidence by law enforcement officials during the trials of the drug cases in court. (ebf)
