ashless transactions at toll road payment gates across the country have reached 91 percent as most gates no longer accept cash transactions from motorists.
Toll Road Regulatory Agency’s (BPJT) operation and maintenance head Wahyudi Mandala Putra said his agency, which is under the supervision of the Public Works and Housing Ministry, had collected the data from toll road gates across the country on Oct. 24.
Wahyudi said the requirement to use e-money at all toll road payment gates would solve traffic congestion and long queues at toll gates, as well as support the national move toward cashless payments being promoted by the government.

Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia’s retail payment system and inclusive financing director Pungky P Wibodo explained that as of Friday, many toll roads were already operating with a completely cashless payment system.
“We are optimistic that by Oct. 31, we will have implemented a 100 percent cashless payment system,” the central bank official said, as reported by kompas.com, adding that good progress has been made considering that in early October cashless transactions stood at 72 percent.
The requirement to use e-money on toll road payment gates was stipulated in the Public Works and Housing Ministry Regulation No 16/PRT/M/2017 on toll road non-cash transactions issued on Sept. 12. (bbn)
