ost country Indonesia is aiming to win at least 16 gold medals in the upcoming 18th Asian Games, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said on Thursday.
Kalla, who acts as a supervisor for local organizers as well as the Indonesian team, said grabbing the 16 golds could place the host country among the top-10 finishers in the Games, which will run from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2.
“We all know that we’ve targeted to finish in the top 10.
“It means we have to win at least 16 gold medals to reach the target — anything lesser than that [will not be good enough for us],” said Kalla after attending a meeting at Indonesia's chief-de-mission office in the Police Staff College (PTIK) complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
Previously, the government had set 20 gold medals as a target to finish in the top 10 position in the quadrennial event.
In the 2014 Games in Incheon, South Korea, Indonesia ranked 17th after winning four gold medals, five silvers and 11 bronzes.
